Moving House? Here’s Exactly What to Put in Your Move-In Box

Moving day is chaotic no matter how organised you are. Boxes everywhere, nothing where you expect it to be, and somehow the one thing you need (like toilet paper or a screwdriver) is always buried at the bottom of a random box.

That’s where your “move-in box” comes in. This is the box (or a couple of tubs) that stays with you so you have everything you need for the first 24–48 hours. You can split it into two tubs which will stop everything getting mixed together and makes upacking so much more streamlined.

  • Tub 1: Daily essentials (food, bathroom, bedding)
  • Tub 2: Tools + setup supplies

This is where you’ll want to go a bit heavier on cleaning, even if the house looks “clean”. Because realistically… you’ll probably want to re-clean things before settling in.

The goal isn’t to have everything unpacked on day one. It’s simply to make sure you can eat, shower, sleep and set up the basics without tearing your entire house apart looking for something simple like a phone charger or a roll of toilet paper.

Those first 24–48 hours can feel surprisingly overwhelming, not because there’s too much to do, but because nothing is where you expect it to be. Having one place with all your essentials makes such a difference.
