Hello to an OG! We’ve done quite a substantial update however the budgeting and organising systems and principles have remained virtually the same. There are two brand new sections on meal planning and cleaning, and the guide is structured as a roadmap of actionable steps you work through to achieve the most maintainable and functioning household. Plus, you get 1 year free access to Picket that will be added to the end of your current subscription if you’re already a user, so we think it’s worth it!
If you’re a current subscriber or have previously subscribed, you can sign in with the same email you used in the app and all of your data will be restored. You will be moving to our web-based subscription though so you will need to manually unsubscribe from the app store (under manage subscriptions) after switching. Your free 1 year will be added to the end of your current subscription.
Your household will be able to access the guide and all the tools purchased under one email address. The Picket app also allows 10 users under one account so you can share the organising tool with your entire household.
Yes, Picket is the primary tool to execute all the systems you will learn about in the guide. You can also use a spreadsheet on mobile/tablet through the Google Sheets, but functionality is a little bit more limited, and support is restricted due to Google Software being used.
We only ever share what works for us and what we have experience in. It’s a budgeting tool, so realistically it should work for everyone, and the information provided is universal however we’ve only personally used it as students, through a double income, casual and full-time employment and with a one child.
As long as you’re comfortable estimating your income, then yes. There are allocated places to record excess or under-estimates. We recommend you underestimate to make sure that even when you have a lower income month, your mandatory expenses are comfortably covered.
The numbers are in fact correct. Each month of the year is not made up of an equal four weeks so it would be inaccurate to just double a periodic income for example. The formula calculates it based on what you actually receive. For example: If you receive $200 a week, it’s not $800 a month – it’s $200 x 52 (weeks in a year) / 12 (months in a year) = $866.
